PLANNING INFORMATION

Costs

  • Schools are required to pay the entry fee of $80.00 per player (NZ$).
  • Strictly non-refundable.
  • Payment MUST be made within seven days of receipt of invoice.
  • Invoices will be sent to the school accounts manager after the entry closing date, Wednesday 5th June 2024.

Entries Close

  • Wednesday 5th June 2024 at 7.59pm.
  • Entries to the 2024 Zespri AIMS Games will be made and only accepted online, via the online registration system. 
  • Registrations will only be accepted from the school's designated Zespri AIMS Games Coordinator.
  • Schools are allocated a unique Zespri AIMS Games registration log in code to complete their entries.

Competitor's Age

Competitors must be over 10 years of age and under 13 years of age, as at 31st December the year before the tournament year. Competitor’s birthdates will be required on school registration documentation. For the 2024 Zespri AIMS Games, this means the accepted birth years are: 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Divisions

  • Tennis Girls Under 13 Years Singles 
  • Tennis Girls Under 13 Years Doubles 
  • Tennis Boys Under 13 Years Singles
  • Tennis Boys Under 13 Years Doubles 
  • Tennis Mixed Under 13 Years Doubles
  • The draw is strictly limited to 96 players in the boys draw and 96 players in the girls draw. If registration for the Zespri AIMS Games Tennis is oversubscribed, then the lowest ranked players will be withdrawn (if unsuccessful the registration fee will be refunded).
  • Individual player registration forms must be completed online by Wednesday 5th June (competitors’ names, date of birth, tennis club, Tennis NZ TP Member ID and manager’s name and contact details are required so players can be ranked and managers notified).
  • A Mixed Doubles division has been introduced for 2024, however this division will only proceed if adequate entry numbers are received.

Multiple Sporting Codes

  • Students may compete in more than one sporting code, provided they are in line with the permitted code crossovers. 
  • Timetable allowances will not be made for any competitors, and it is the sole responsibility of the school to check for programming conflicts.

PLEASE NOTE: In the event of wet weather, the schedule may change.

RULES​​​​​​​

  1. The tournament will run under Tennis New Zealand Rules.
  2. All players MUST have a Tennis NZ Match Hub Grading or an equivalent national grade from their country of origin.
  3. The tournament manager reserves the right, in the event of wet weather, to shorten sets, the number of sets or the number of games in any event and alter playing times.
  4. There will be some games under lights to get through the programme.
  5. Players cannot be replaced once the draw has been set.

Singles draw

  1. Format of draws will be based on entry numbers.
  2. All players guaranteed at least three matches.
  3. All main draw open division matches (before semi's and finals) will be two tie-break sets, a super tie-break (10 points) in lieu of a 3rd set, and sudden death on second deuce scoring.
  4. All main draw open division (Singles,  Doubles and Mixed Doubles) SEMI's and FINALS will be three tie-break sets with normal advantage scoring.
  5. Plate matches may be shortened to two short tie-break sets of 4 (7 points), a super tie-break (10 points) in lieu of a 3rd set, and sudden death on second deuce scoring. The same scoring format will apply to other rounds (divisions) if there is a delay due to weather conditions.

Doubles draw

  1. Doubles playing partner must attend the same school.
  2. All main draw matches will be two tie breaker sets and a super tie breaker (1st to 10 points) if required in lieu of a 3rd set and No-advantage scoring to apply.
  3. Plate matches will be shortened to two sets of 4 and a tiebreaker (1st to 7 points) if required in lieu of a 3rd set. No-advantage scoring to apply.
  4. A player can only enter doubles OR mixed doubles, as these events will take place at the same time/dates.

Mixed Doubles draw

  1. A Mixed Doubles competition has been introduced for 2024, however this competition will only proceed if adequate entry numbers are received.
  2. Mixed Doubles playing partner must attend the same school; pair of one boy, one girl.
  3. All main draw matches will be two tie breaker sets and a super tie breaker (1st to 10 points) if required in lieu of a 3rd set and No-advantage scoring to apply.
  4. Plate matches will be shortened to two sets of 4 and a tiebreaker (1st to 7 points) if required in lieu of a 3rd set. No-advantage scoring to apply.
  5. A player can only enter doubles OR mixed doubles, as these events will take place at the same time/dates.

Draw for the first round

The draw will be posted on the Zespri AIMS Games website and app on Thursday 29th August, published on TNZ’s tournament software website and will also be available at the Managers Meeting on the Monday morning

Referees

All players must be prepared to adjudicate matches as required. A tournament referee will be available.

Team event

  1. Schools with less than two competitors in a gender division will be ineligible.
  2. Boys Division results from singles placings – the placing of the top two boys will be added together. Lowest team total is the winner i.e., a placing of 6th and 13th = 19 points (1st), 5th and 22nd = 27 points (2nd).
  3. Girls Division results from singles placings – the placing of the top two girls will be added together. Lowest team total is the winner i.e., a placing of 6th and 13th = 19 points (1st), 5th and 22nd = 27 points (2nd).
  4. When team points are tied it is judged on the school that has the highest placed competitor.

MEDAL PRESENTATIONS

Singles and doubles place getters will be presented with their medals at the Venture Developments WBOP Tennis Centre. The teams event top two place getters (of the winning school) will also receive their gold medals at the conclusion of the tournament at the tennis venue.  There will be Fair Play awards presented to one girl and boy in each Singles division, as well as a girl and boy overall in the doubles/mixed divisions.
